Tonya was born and grew up in Gatesville, Texas. She married and
relocated to California in 1965. She has three children, Valerie (age
30), Brad (age 27) and Michael (age 26). She was employed as a
Registered Nurse for 11 years and worked double shifts to support her
children. She graduated from Western State University in 1985 and
obtained her pilot's license while waiting for her bar results. Tonya
also holds a Real Estate Brokerage license. Tonya is married to a California Highway Patrol Officer. She has been running marathons since 1979, including "ultra" distances which are distances longer than a marathon (26.2 miles) and up to 100 miles. In April of 1996, she and her husband ran their 100th marathon at the 100th anniversary running of the Boston Marathon. Tonya's daughter, Valerie, also an attorney in the firm, ran the Boston Marathon in 1996. Tonya volunteers her time to the Domestic Violence Center working with unrepresented victims of domestic abuse seeking emergency restraining orders. In addition, she voluteers to act as a Judge Pro Tem for the Orange County Superior Court. She has also been specially appointed by the Court to represent minor children in custody proceedings and to act as a Special Master to help the Court resolve complicated issues.
